Volunteers can apply to tutor, support confirmed programs, help prepare reviewed learning materials, or contribute to student project mentorship. Approval and assignment depend on organizational needs.
What you can expect

Ways volunteers support the mission
Volunteer work may include tutoring students, helping with confirmed programs, preparing learning materials, submitting resources for review, or contributing to educational project mentorship. Applicants describe how they want to serve, the skills they can use, their interests, and their availability.
Volunteer matching is based on current student and program needs. An application begins the approval process but does not guarantee a specific student, schedule, program, number of hours, or assignment.
What approved volunteers are expected to do
Volunteers should respond to organizational messages, follow through on accepted roles, arrive prepared, review approved resources, and follow student-safety and program instructions. They should communicate when circumstances change rather than leaving a family or program without an update.
Accepted service time is recorded and reviewed so public impact totals reflect verified hours. Approved volunteers may also submit worksheets, guides, videos, and study tools, but those materials stay out of the public library until a manager reviews and approves them.
Volunteer roles and team roles are different
The general volunteer path is for direct student support, program help, resources, and related service. The separate team application is for applicants seeking responsibility for public media, technology and communications systems, or a regional chapter.
Team applicants are asked for evidence of prior work, a practical plan, availability, and judgment in realistic scenarios. Selection is reviewed separately from volunteer account approval, and submitting either form does not guarantee placement.
